![]() ![]() How true is the saying…”When there’s a will, there’s a way!” A 4-1/2 hour drive soon turned into 6-1/2 hours, but I was more than grateful to arrive home safely. I made up my mind I was going to make it, and nothing was going to stop me. That’s how much it meant to me to meet her. But as I faced these adverse weather conditions and driving became more and more treacherous and a real challenge, I remained determined and focused on my goal…continue carefully and cautiously on my journey to NJ to meet Amy. The storm didn’t come “later” that afternoon, it came much “earlier,” as in “now”…while I was driving down the New York State Thruway! And these were real severe weather conditions which caused accidents galore…I witnessed cars spun out in ditches, others crashed against the guardrail, plus at one point there was a 7-car pile-up. I thought…that’s OK, I’ll leave early enough in the morning so I’ll beat the storm. Then came the weather forecast for Saturday…winter weather warning/watch for that whole area in the northeast starting later Saturday afternoon…snow, sleet, and freezing rain. ![]() My plan was to drive back to NY from VT on Saturday, 1/3, and then go to Ridgewood, NJ on Sunday for the event. Her story is so compelling that meeting her was very important to me. I definitely was going to meet her… I just had to rearrange my schedule. But no problem…since I was really looking forward to meeting her and returning to the bookstore where Derek had been, I would simply just take some time out of my vacation. And furthermore, how fitting and awesome it was that her first stop would be at Bookends…the same bookstore where Derek began his book signing tour in August! Since Amy and Derek’s lives, stories, values, and positive messages are all intertwined and connected, it was so meaningful that they would share the same first venue, which continued to keep their special connection with each other alive! Two different lives, yet the same outlook and philosophy on life, the same venue…what a perfect scenario!Īmy’s book signing date of 1/4/15 in NJ fell right in the middle of a winter break when I would be out of town. Well, my wish was about to come true…I was so thrilled to find out that she would be at Bookends in NJ on 1/4/15!! What an absolutely perfect way to start the New Year…meeting and talking with this truly beautiful young lady, who is an incredible source of inspiration and hope. When I first heard that Amy had written a book about her life story, which would be released on 12/30/14, I was so happy to hear this wonderful news! As much as I was looking forward to reading her inspirational and powerful story, I also very much wanted to meet her, and I was hoping that she would be going on a book signing tour in my area. “Amy and Derek, you are two precious gifts who inspire us to stand on our own two feet and to take the lead in life’s journey.” On My Own Two Feet: From Losing My Legs to Learning the Dance of LifeĪmy Purdy’s Book Signing at Bookends in Ridgewood, NJ on Januby Cathy And Cathy, from Heidi and myself, THANK YOU for taking us right there with you and all the mentions on Pure Derek Hough too!!!
